Too long and too much unnecessary random. First: if you want to create lategame equipment, you will have to farm a lot. Much more, than worth it. And both resources and research points are very slow to gain, compared to the amounts they are needed in. Second: when growing up a child (one of the most important ivents of the game - gaining a producer\/warrior\/etc) your options are randomly based on stats of a kid, and then you are again randomly tested if a child passed a test. So, if you wish to have some special interesting characters you would have to save\/load a lot of times.. Once you discover the "game loop" the game isn't fun. I waited until release to buy this so I could enjoy a "full" experience. This is not it. I'm reasonably convinced they grabbed a game designer fresh out of a 101 class who played so many games they must be great at making them.Let's pray for mod support so the community can do the heavy lifting on the design end. The foundation is solid.. Gets stuck waiting every now and then when I click end turn. Relatively bad performance rest of the time. This sort of stuff might be acceptable if it was a product under development, but this is a full release...Shameful.I'd recommend not buying it till it has been patched a decent amount.. In summary, as a player of Thea 1 and Thea 2, I found the user interface, game play and game mechanics of Thea 2 to be a big improvement over Thea 1. However, in my opinion, it lacks the replay ability of Thea 1. Thea 2 also contains mystery mechanics and other mechanics that don't make sense. Example 1: Luck trait has 2 variants, why? Luck is so poorly explained as a beneficial trait. Example 2: Equipment weight is an issue and its an added dimension to the game play that I liked. However, some items weigh the sum of their parts while some items have a weight unrelated those parts. If you are planning to gather some lighter and higher tier materials to make that better and lighter armor for your strength deficient witch, forget that idea. There is a good probability that your crafted results will be undesirable because its heavy weight does not align with the expected results from using lighter materials. In Thea 1, you earned points towards making a god more powerful. Therefore, I played it a lot because I was curious to see how each god evolved. This is missing in Thea 2 and I miss that. In its place, you earn god points to unlock new starting options (cards) for a god. This may be to simulate having a more powerful or varied start, but after a few unlocks, nothing seemed appealing to me. In fact, many of the unlocks just make the game harder. For example, why would I want to select a single character that costs me 4 of my 4 start up points over selecting four characters. It seems like the reward for earning god points is to make the game give the player a harder starting setup which translates to a greater grind. This is the opposite of Thea 1.In Thea 1, each god had bonus that made game play and character load out planing interesting. In Thea 2, only 1 god seems at all appealing to me. The power of having 37% master craft chance 400 turns into the game with mostly T2 + T3 materials meant that I never had to go to other islands or get higher tier materials to win the game. Thus, other god choices are only harder not different. This limits game reply value. Also, the main quest system is entirely limited to the starter island, as far as I can tell.Thea 2 has an excellent crafting system, but, it is complex. It is also lacking in UI details. For example, you cannot preview trash and master crafted variants. Moreover, the game forces you to pull out a calculator, in order to decide which gathering tool to craft. For example, if I plan to send out a team of 4 to do some gathering and I want them to have gathering tools, will it be better to make the +3.0 gather tool or the 121% gather tool? Who should get which type? It would be useful, although a lot of developer work, to be able to preview the net effect of an item (all 3 qualities) on a specified character both inside and outside of benefits from an idol before crafting it.Early game frustration in Thea 2 cancels out much of the enjoyment that could be experienced with the outstanding event system. The events are varied, plentiful and mostly helpful. They employ a decision tree mechanic and reward \/ penalize a player based on choices taken. There is no way to predict the outcome of a set of choices and even those outcomes are selected from a set of possibilities for the exact same set of player responses. This is an excellent game mechanic and makes even repeating events interesting and a gamble. However, frustration sets in when you want to experiment with the possibilities because the game lacks a quick save and quick load.I like the large variety of weapons and buildings in the game. However, some buildings seems to be of no value. For example, getting 1 T1 lumber per turn was just too low to be worth building even if you built a base without access to wood. Even the highest T5 variant of this building is lacking given the construction cost. Also, the building that generates pets never gave me a pet after 100's of turns. The trader building only had an initial trade on opening and never another. Perhaps these are incomplete, but the game has released.Characters seem to have either a defensive(tank)\/support role or damage\/summoner role. The best weapon selection would be one that maximizes that role. As a result, there are many crafted weapons that I would never use because there existed another weapon that was always better for use in that role. For me, weapons like spears, axes, polearms, scrolls, bows and others never served a role.As good as the crafting system is in Thea 2, it is missing a critical element that, in my opinion adds tons of replay and weapon load out variety in Thea 1. This missing element is the random stat or two that a crafted item would get in Thea 1. For example, crafting a sword that randomly got +2 Gather and +2 Str. I would try a sword combat gatherer instead of a +Wis Artifact gatherer. One of the aspects that does add to replay value is the large set of difficulty settings. The combat system has lots of options and the game can auto resolve them. I found it interesting that, if I replayed battles that were previously auto resolved, my outcomes would sometimes be vastly different. There were cases when auto resolve netted me a few scratches but manual resolve lead to a few character deaths. Then there were cases when auto resolve netted me a complete team death but manual resolve provided me with a perfect victory. Although some characters almost died on round one, by the later rounds, life leech and shield leech restored them to full health and shields.Game stability was impressive. I had just one crash to desktop in many hours of play.Bugs are few and mostly addressed. The only post release bug I encountered which corrupted the game file and this happened twice, is when I started with 5 characters and split them into two groups one hex apart and made two camps which both gathered. On a later next turn, when one team broke camp and merged with the other, that camp would get a harvest radius of two. On the next turn the game file would be corrupted, a pop up message informed me and the camp had a gather radius of zero.Sound and graphics are exceptional. The UI seems to have a mobile device compatible design but functions with a mouse well enough. The underlying story is reasonably compelling. The quest help, however, seems barely functional, perhaps even incomplete. For example, a couple of NPC villages sent me on quests, but the map does not auto scroll me to the location (hint hint devs) when I accepted the quests. Clicking on the quest link shows me the story related to the quest so far, but not where to go. Annoyingly, in mid game after having visited many NPC villages, revisiting an NPC village tells me that either I am already on a quest (where to go, I don't know) or there are none available. It would be better to clearly state one way or the other and auto scroll the map to where the player needs to go if the quest remains incomplete. Finally, I expect there to be changes that will improve the game, like loading from the pause menu. There is also one god that I was not able to unlock even though I have 27 unspent god points. I still would recommend this game, but there is much room for improvement. I'd score it at 8\/10 and, with further improvements, it could score better.. It is good BUT why is this game increasing my system temperature more than AAA games on Fantastic 2560 ? I'm running a 1080 GTX TIAlso, as I stated previously, you need to SPECIFY THE LEVEL OF RANDOM \/ EVENT ENCOUNTERS SO WE KNOW WHICH TO AVOID.. I picked up this game when it first was released since I enjoyed Thea: The Awakening so much. I got in a bit of a rut not enjoying map games for a while. That has since past, and I tried out the game some more.It is very different from Thea 1! The original seemed very easy to me after a bit of playing it. I just played 3 games and hopped directly into a trap that instantly kills my whole party with reckless abandon. I haven't had this experience of learning what paths to avoid instant death since when I first started Thea 1, and I am thoroughly enjoying. After my first death, I found out that character actually have 3 health bars, which means you can die by going in over your head in other challenges. In the first, you only had to worry during a physical fight. After my second death, I found out that the difficulty of challenges is marked by a number in a circle next to the card that indicates the type of challenge. This is different than the skulls. After my third death, I learned how to maneuver the dudes on the red mound without dying. (Don't try to flirt them when you have a party of all guys?) :PI'm very excited to relearn a basically entirely new game with the same premise of a favorite one!. not bad, compared to the first is far better.but I would prefer more personalization of the characters, more picts , would be great. I was a huge fan of Thea 1, and Thea 2 definitely delivers. The combat system in Thea 2 is very different - I highly enjoy both systems, but the new system in Thea 2 I have to say has more flexibility and potential. The quests and random events are extremely enjoyable, and now you have over a dozen neutral factions to interact with. The God Card system is a drastic improvement over Thea 1's God level-up system. The art and music are amazing. Some balance and quality-of-life improvements could definitely be welcome, but I'm not worried because I know the devs are definitely listening to the player base. The game has come a LONG way since it first entered Early Access, and we know there is still more content coming.
